Why Does Material Quality Matter in Metal Accessory Selection?

A product's quality in the textile industry is not measured by fabric alone. Metal accessories such as buttons, snap fasteners, rivets, and eyelets directly affect a brand's overall perception in terms of both aesthetics and durability.

The two most commonly used materials on the market are brass and zamak. Brass is an alloy of zinc and copper. Its high mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability make it particularly preferred in denim, leather, and outdoor products. Zamak is a zinc-based alloy whose low melting point provides advantages in producing complex geometries. While more accessible in terms of cost than brass, brass maintains its superiority in long-term usage conditions.

The main criteria to consider in material selection are: compliance of the surface coating with OEKO-TEX standards, pull and tensile strength in mechanical tests, corrosion performance in salt spray testing, and chemical compatibility with fabric.

At Dikmen Metal, we provide technical support to our customers on appropriate material and coating selection for each accessory. The right material choice both extends the lifespan of the final product and protects brand value.
